1. Housing Services Unit
The Council provides a range of services that are aimed to help people who are homeless or who have housing problems.
The Housing Services Unit produces a series of information leaflets and gives full details of their services.
These leaflets are available in the reception area at the address below or by telephoning the Housing Services Unit.

Homeless and Emergency Services
This team house homeless people who are in priority need. You should see the booklet: Homeless in Lambeth, or you may visit the Housing Services Unit, if you think you have a priority need.
Tenancy Relations Officer (TROs)
TROs offer a meditation service between tenants and private Landlords with the aim of resolving disputes amicable.
They can provide guidance about the rights and responsiblities of Tenants and Landlords.

Housing Register
If you have been resident in Lambeth for 12 months and are 18 or over you may qualify for a place on the Housing Register Officers (Waiting List).

Shelter Housing
If you are 55 and have lived in Lambeth for 12 months you may be eligible for Shelter Housing.

HIV & Housing
If you are homeless and are HIV positive you can get help and advice from our HIV Housing service.

2. Libraries
In Lambeth Libraries you can see newspapers and magazines. Some libraries also offer free Internet access, all of which you can use to help you to find your own home.

3. Housing & Council Tax Benefit
Housing and Council Tax Benefit are for people who have to pay rent / or are on benefit or low income.
You can claim Housing Benefit when you claim Income Support or Job Seekers Allowance or in Lambeth, directly from the Housing Benefits and Revenue Service. There is more information about claming Housing and Tax Benefit in the leaflets: Finding your own home and Welfare benefits pack.

4. Social Services
Adults
Our Social Services Department does not have a duty to provide people with housing. However, they may be able to provide you with advice and assistance if you can't get help elesewhere.
This may be because you have been found to be intentionally homeless or have no access to public funds or have another problem you need help with. Children and Families
If you have children who live with you and the council have found you to be intentionally homeless, you may ask for an assessment by a social worker under section 17 of the Children Act.
The purpose of this assessment is to advice the Housing Department if your child is at risk of significant harm.
In no circumstances do Social Services have a duty to provide housing to you or your child.

5. Register of Births, Marriages & Deaths
If you where born in Lambeth you can obtain a copy of your birth certificate from the registrars section. The fee for this is £6.50.
This department is also responsible for the registration of deaths and for conduction civil marriage ceremonies in the area.

6. Education
The Education One Stop Shop is an educational information, support and advisory for Lambeth residents.
The service is based at International House, behind the police station in Brixton. It provides a range of services; offers assistance with completing application forms for free school meals, secondary transfer and grants for clothing, travel to school, school journey and students support.

7. Your Councillors
There are three members of parliament and 41 councillors who represent the residents of Lambeth.
All are available at regular advice surgeries to meet with constituents. To find out your local MP or Councillor is you should call or visit the Lambeth Information Service in the Town Hall in central Brixton.
